Nearly 300 police officers are e deployed across Denarau,Nadi this week as Fiji steps up security for the high-level Pre-COP31 climate meeting.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says the operation is already underway, with officers and specialist capabilities being positioned in the West ahead of the arrival of international delegates.
“Almost 300 police officers will be involved together with the capabilities. Our technical team are now down in the West.”
Tudravu says police training has been completed and officers are now being moved into position ahead of the meeting.
“Training has already been done. So on the first of this month, the team is moving down so that they can place themselves and await the arrival of the delegates that are coming in.”
The security operation will cover Denarau, where Tudravu says the entire area has been booked for the meeting.
This means motorists and members of the public can expect increased police activity and possible changes to traffic movement around Nadi.
Tudravu said police would provide further details on traffic arrangements as the operation progresses.
The heightened security comes as Fiji hosts senior climate representatives ahead of COP31.
For police, the priority is securing the delegates, venues and movements throughout the meeting.
Tudravu states the force is prepared for the operation.
