A pediatrician accused of sexually abusing 10 children allegedly used a dating website to contact underage girls, with a court told there could be more victims.

Chia Liang Saw appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday facing 20 fresh charges, bringing the total number of offences the 41-year-old is accused of to 53.

During a part-heard bail application, the court heard Saw allegedly sexually abused and recorded child patients he was treating for ADHD.

Saw is also accused of using the Sugar Daddy website to procure children for sex, with the court told his internet search history included the term “Doctor Saw paedophile”.

The medico, who worked in a hospital, allegedly sent a victim inappropriate emails while they were in school, and waited outside the child’s school and home.

Saw’s alleged victims included patients, eight of whom were girls aged 12 to 15, a 10-year-old girl allegedly abused at his family home and a 13-year-old girl allegedly exploited online.

Investigations continue and seven more victims have potentially been identified, with further charges likely to be laid in the coming days, prosecutors said.

The doctor, whose medical registration has been suspended, was charged in late May with persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16 and possessing child exploitation material.

He was slugged with 31 more charges in mid-June, including seven counts each of indecent dealing with a child under 13 years and producing child exploitation material.

The 20 new charges brought on Tuesday related to communications with one person over 20 days, Saw’s lawyer Alex Smith said.

Saw denies the persistent sexual conduct allegations and the recordings were made by the doctor to protect himself against allegations, Mr Smith said.

An expert had viewed the recording and found there was no reasonable explanation for the interactions, prosecutors said.

Mr Smith said if granted bail, Saw would not be able to work or be a risk to the community because “his name is mud at this point”.

Saw was not required to enter a plea and was remanded in custody to reappear in the same court on Friday, when his bail application will continue.
