The Fiji Pearls are set to ramp up preparations for next month’s Netball World Cup qualifiers in Tonga, with head coach Michelle Parsons pleased with the progress made by the squad over the past two months.
Parsons says the extended squad has been in training since mid-June, laying the foundation for the crucial tournament ahead.
“The girls have been working hard since the middle of June, so we’re about two months into training as an extended squad.”
The coach revealed preparations will step up another level next week when the team enters a high-intensity training camp before departing for Tonga on September 9.
“Next week we really dial it up because we go into camp in a week of intensive training camp before we go to Tonga.”
Despite acknowledging the challenges that come with building a team, Parsons is confident the players are moving in the right direction.
“Growth can be messy and we’ve got to go through a bit of chaos to get some magic, and the girls are working hard through all of that.”
The Pearls coach believes the squad’s trust in each other and commitment to representing Fiji will be crucial at the qualifiers.
“The most important part is they trust who they are, they trust what they’ve done and they trust each other, and ultimately we’re going there to bleed for Fiji and that’s what we intend to do.”
The Fiji Pearls will travel to Tonga next month aiming to secure qualification for the Netball World Cup.
