In an effort to nurture emerging talent, Basketball Fiji will be selecting standout players from the recent Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championship to train with the senior national squads.

According to Basketball Fiji’s interim chief operating officer, William Peters, this follows the successful conclusion of the championship finals held at Vodafone Arena in Suva last Saturday, where officials were impressed with what they observed across both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

They aim to incorporate these promising athletes into structured development programs, with the goal of strengthening the future talent pool for national representation.

“We’re definitely looking at a list of talents that we’re sharing with the basketball community soon, there’s also our national basketball training squad which we’ve selected from this competition. We’ve also got a few of our under-19 boys and girls to train we our national senior team.”

Particular attention was given to the girls’ competition, which featured a noticeably fast-paced style of play—an encouraging sign for the growth and competitiveness of women’s basketball in the country.

This move aligns with Basketball Fiji’s broader strategy to build depth and sustainability across all levels of the sport, ensuring a strong pipeline of talent for future international competitions.
