The Methodist Church in Fiji is stepping up investment in commercial projects, with a three-point-six-million-dollar service station already operational and a major complex nearing completion.
Speaking at the Church’s annual conference in Suva, President Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou says the projects are part of efforts to strengthen the Church’s financial sustainability.
“We opened the first MCIF service station at Davuilevu. That investment was roughly $3.6 million, and the church’s first venture into the fuel retail industry now carried forward under the new established Lakoyani Limited.”
The Church has also invested in what it describes as its largest commercial development to date.
The ten-storey complex is being built beside the Reverend John Hunt Building on Stewart Street, with completion targeted for October.
“As the Stewart Street construction continues on our largest commercial investment to date, a 10-story complex beside the Reverend John Hunt Building is targeted for completion around October this year.”
The Church is also looking ahead to another major development — a new conference centre.
Planning and paperwork for the project are already underway through its business arm, Lakoyani Management.
“Furthermore, planning and paperwork for the construction of the MCIF Conference Center is progressing well through the Lakoyani Management team. We hope and pray that the conference of 2027 will be held in a new conference center.”
Turagavou says these investments are part of the Church’s broader push to develop its resources and become more self-reliant.
