A community initiative that started with a focus on youth engagement and grassroots development is set to reach a new milestone with the launch of one of Fiji’s richest volleyball tournaments.

Genesis Volleyball Club, operating under the Nakasi Youth Volleyball Association, has announced its premier All-Mens Volleyball Tournament, offering a top prize of $4,000 for the champions.

The two-day competition will be held at the Fiji Sports Council Netball Centre in Suva on October 2 and 3, marking a major step up for the organisation from hosting local community events to staging a tournament at a national venue.

The event builds on the success of Genesis Club’s off-season competitions, which have attracted leading teams from around the country, including established volleyball clubs from Suva.

Led by a committee of former Nakasi volleyball representatives, the club has used its tournaments to keep young people involved in sport during the league off-season while promoting discipline and community engagement.

Beyond volleyball, Genesis continues to advocate for improved sporting facilities in Nakasi, including efforts to upgrade the Qeledamu playing court into a modern concrete facility.

Club initiatives have also incorporated youth development programmes focusing on financial literacy and drug awareness, drawing support from government stakeholders and community partners.

The tournament will feature a tiered prize structure, with the runners-up receiving $1,000, losing semi-finalists $600, and losing quarter-finalists $400.

Teams interested in participating must pay a $250 registration fee, with entries closing on September 11. Organisers say team numbers will be capped, with places confirmed upon payment of either the full registration fee or a 70 per cent commitment deposit.

The tournament is expected to attract some of the country’s top volleyball talent as Genesis Volleyball Club continues its mission of combining sport, youth development and community engagement.
