Captaining Nasinu Secondary School to the Weet-Bix Raluve Under-16 title was something Akosita Naibiu never thought would happen at the start of the season.

The Vuaki, Yasawa native helped guide Nasinu to victory over St Vincent College in the national final and says the triumph was built on faith, hard work and the support of those behind the scenes.

“I want to take this time to thank God for protecting us throughout the season, during training and games.”

Naibiu admitted that simply reaching the final exceeded the team’s expectations.

“We did not expect to be in the final, let alone win.”

The captain was quick to acknowledge the people whose contributions often go unnoticed, dedicating the title to the supporters and staff who stood by the team throughout its championship run.

“To our supporters, our kitchen crew, the canteen lady, our manager and coaches, this win is dedicated to you all.”

Nasinu’s victory over St Vincent College crowned the side national under-16 champions and capped off a memorable Raluve campaign for Naibiu and her teammates.
