The Fiji Rugby Union and FIJI Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne have mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately.
The Sportsworld Fiji Under-20 head coach will now step in as interim coach before the FRU begins the process of appointing a new head coach.
The announcement was made today, following discussions on the future direction of the national side, with both parties agreeing that a change was in the best interest of Fiji Rugby moving forward.
FRU Chief Executive Koli Sewabu acknowledged Byrne’s commitment, saying the Australian had remained dedicated to both players and staff throughout his tenure.
The union also paid tribute to Byrne’s contribution, highlighting the foundation he helped build across both the Fijian Drua and the Fiji national rugby team, where his leadership brought growth, resilience, and a strong sense of pride in the white jersey.
Byrne, who spent five years involved in Fiji Rugby, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, describing it as an honour to work with the players and staff. He also thanked Fijian fans for their unwavering support during his time in the role.
