The Fiji Achievement in Media Excellence (FAME) Awards 2025 will be held on the 6th of next month, at the Novotel Lami Convention & Entertainment Centre.

The event date carries special significance for Fiji’s media industry, marking 19 years since censorship was imposed on local newsrooms — a moment organizers say makes this year’s ceremony a celebration of resilience and press freedom.

FAME Awards Chairman Shane Hussein said preparations are well underway, with 121 entries submitted across 25 award categories, making it one of the most competitive media awards in Fiji’s history.

“Between the Fijian Media Association and Fiji Media Council, we’ve designed the FAME Awards to be one of the biggest events on the national calendar. Our journalists and newsrooms have submitted strong entries, and the judges will have a delightfully difficult task shortlisting finalists and selecting winners.”

The most contested categories include Best Feature Article (Print), Best Commentary or Opinion, Best Coverage of iTaukei Affairs, Best Sports Journalism, Scoop of the Year, Best Photography, Young Journalist of the Year, and Best Coverage of a Major News Event.

Judging is currently underway, with finalists to be announced soon. All shortlisted nominees will receive complimentary invitations to the awards night and digital finalist badges.

From the winners of Radio Journalist of the Year, Print Journalist of the Year, and TV Journalist of the Year, judges will select the overall Journalist of the Year.

Hussein also confirmed that a few tables and sponsorship opportunities remain, encouraging businesses and supporters of the media to get involved.

The 2025 FAME Awards will also feature the revival of the Fiji Media Hall of Fame, with five inductees to be honored for their lifetime contributions to journalism in Fiji.
