Road safety concerns have intensified following the Denarau accident, prompting urgent government action.
Transport Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau states speeding remains a major cause of crashes and stressed that drivers must follow speed limits.
He extended his thoughts and well wishes to the victims, many of whom are primary breadwinners and expressed sympathy to their families.
“About 80% of accidents are caused by over-speeding, but there are also issues regarding careless driving, and the way we assess and issue licenses.”
Ro Filipe confirmed that the Land Transport Authority is investigating the incident.

Ro Filipe stressed that improving road safety is a whole-of-government effort, aiming to protect all road users and prevent future tragedies.
