The Team Kikau netball side lost its opening match of the National Academy Tournament, going down to South Australia Institute of Sports 74-25 at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
The team is a Fiji selection side made up of Under-17 players.
The South Australia side is one of two overseas teams from Australia, participating at the three-day tournament.
The other Australian side, Victoria Institute of Sports proved too strong for Team Kulawai, winning their first pool match 85-21.
Team Kulai is made up of Under-19 players.
The competition continues tomorrow with Netball Fiji using the tournament as a national selection ground for the World Youth Cup qualifiers next year.
