In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 17, singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh won Rs. 50 lakhs and announced that he would donate his entire prize money to help people affected by the floods in Punjab.
Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, the seventeenth season of the popular quiz show continues to combine knowledge, emotion, and inspiration. Diljit appeared as a celebrity guest and played the game with confidence and composure, answering fourteen questions correctly.
He still had one lifeline left when the hooter sounded, marking the end of his time on the hot seat. At that moment, he was just two questions away from the Rs. 7 crores jackpot.
Diljit’s act of generosity became the highlight of the episode. He expressed his concern for those impacted by the floods in Punjab and said he wanted to support their rehabilitation and recovery efforts. His contribution of Rs. 50 lakhs will go to a charity working for flood relief in the region.
The question that secured Diljit’s Rs. 50 lakhs win was a musical one—an appropriate topic for the acclaimed singer.
The question asked which famous musician composed the original distinctive tune that plays at the beginning of Doordarshan broadcasts.
The options were Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and Dr. L. Subramaniam. Diljit used his 50:50 lifeline and selected Pandit Ravi Shankar as the answer, which was correct.
Pandit Ravi Shankar, the legendary sitar maestro, composed the iconic Doordarshan tune in 1976. It was later arranged by his student, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and went on to become one of the most recognizable sounds in Indian television history.
