Two surfers who participated in the annual PBS Lighthouse Challenge in Suva over the weekend will represent Fiji as part of “Team Fiji” at the World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico next year.
The contest played a pivotal role in determining the country’s representatives.
This two-day event, which began in 2016, has gained popularity and sponsorship support each year.
In 2023, Fiji’s most skilled surfers competed in what the Fiji Surfing Association considers their second national qualification contest.
Surfers Association President Hannah Bennett describes the final for the men’s division as showcasing the most impressive surfing in Fiji’s history.
Bennett adds that this new generation of surfers is competing at a very high level and demonstrating progressive manoeuvres never before seen by Fijians.
