Research policy connects academia to policymakers: Prasad

October 24, 2023 11:46 am

Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad says the value of research-policy interfaces and the connection of research to policy brings in new ideas and innovations.

In his closing remarks at the Asia Pacific Applied Economic Association’s lecture series at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Suva last night, Prasad says this gives policymakers the ability to use evidence to formulate policies anchored in solid rigorous academic research.

He adds this creates a lot more confidence and builds public trust in government institutions and the policies that governments make.

The Minister says policy implementation based on evidence can have a lasting long-term impact on good policy outcomes.

He acknowledged the enormous relationship between policymakers, government institutions and politicians and commits the government to believe in transparency and accountability, as well as strong collaboration with academia.

Prasad also commended Professor Paresh Narayan’s keynote address on Evidence-based Policy for Economic Progress and Sustainability in the Pacific.
