The Ministry of Trade today launched the Fiji National Single Window Blueprint report, a road map to developing a system that recognizes the need for different agencies to be involved in the trade clearance process.
The blueprint outlines the roles and responsibilities of these agencies in the interconnectedness approach through this platform.
Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica says intentional consultation is key to piercing this system together to enhance Fiji’s trading capabilities.
“This blueprint marks a milestone step for Fiji into paperless trade by developing and implementing the National Single Window System. The Single Window System will enable electronic exchange of trade-related information and documents between government agencies, reducing the time and costs associated with trade as well as improving the ease of doing business.”
The ratification of the World Trade Organization’s Trade Facilitation Agreement in 2017 required Fiji to attempt to establish a single window system to streamline and simplify its trade procedures by 2025.
“And today demonstrates our position of being well on track in line with this ratification.”
Upon implementation, the system will standardize data and documentation requirements, streamline processes, secure communication between government agencies and private sector partners, enhance trade data accuracy, and improve transparency and easier regulation by relevant agencies.
The report was written by the European Union, funded by the Improving Pacific Islands Customs and Trade Project and implemented by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
