The Fiji New Zealand Business Council reiterates its support for a transparent and inclusive consultation process regarding the proposed Employment Relations Amendment Bill.

In a statement, the council says, following their initial statement endorsing the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation’s call for an extension of the submission period, they are encouraged by the growing consensus among stakeholders that more time is needed to fully understand and respond to the proposed legislative changes.

It says these bills carry significant implications for employers, employees, and the broader business community, and it is imperative that all voices are heard.

It further says the council received feedback from members expressing appreciation for the council’s advocacy and emphasizing the importance of meaningful engagement.

The council says they continue to urge the government to consider extending the consultation timeline to allow for thorough legal and operational review of the proposed amendments, sector-specific analysis to assess potential impacts, collaborative dialogue between government, businesses, unions and the general public.

The council says it remains committed to supporting a legislative process that strengthens employment relations while safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders.

It says they welcome ongoing dialogue with policymakers and stand ready to contribute constructively to the development of fair and effective workplace legislation.
