January 8, 2026 7:00 am

From trying badminton as a leisure activity less than three years ago, 21-year-old Aiden Caine is now set to make his national debut at the Oceania Championships next month.

The former student of Saint Thomas High School and Yat Sen Secondary School says he first picked up a racquet while waiting for swimming practice to start, having been part of both schools’ swim teams during high school.

Caine adds that shortly after trying the sport, he knew he wanted to pursue it seriously.

“Training has been coming along well. We had a camp last month, and I am really excited to represent the country for the first time.”

The Oceania Championships will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from February 8 to 12, giving Caine his first opportunity to test his preparation on the international stage.
