The McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s is officially in full swing, with international teams already on the move ahead of next Saturday’s title decider.

Tournament co-founder Jay Whyte confirms that teams, including the British Army, are travelling from across the globe, with some expected to arrive in Fiji by Friday as preparations intensify.

Their arrival kicks off a packed week blending elite sevens rugby with community engagement and off-field activities.

“I just saw yesterday that the British Army side leaving Heathrow in London to fly all the way across the globe to join us here, so the teams are moving and the anticipation is building.”

Organisers have arranged transport and accommodation support for visiting teams, alongside outreach programs designed to grow the game beyond the touchlines.

Whyte stresses that the Coral Coast 7s is as much about the experience as it is about the results.

This year’s tournament also raises the stakes, offering the biggest prize money ever for a sevens event in Fiji. Whyte says the increased purse reflects the event’s not-for-profit model, where sponsorship support is reinvested into the tournament and teams.

With free entry for fans and a record prize pool on the line, the Coral Coast 7s promises one of its most competitive and engaging editions yet.

The tournament starts next Thursday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, with LIVE coverage on FBC Sports.
