The upgraded Naililili Nursing Station in Rewa will improve healthcare services for more than 3,398 people across 14 villages and 18 settlements.

The upgrade is a major step in the government’s push to strengthen primary healthcare and deliver services to rural and maritime communities.

Health Minister Dr Atonio Lalabalavu states the renewed station reflects Fiji’s commitment to universal health coverage and providing essential care for families.

Funded through KOICA under the WHO SHAPE project, the $378,000 renovation includes a new ablution block, improved plumbing and electrical systems and solar installations.

These improvements will enhance service delivery while supporting climate-resilient operations.

Since 1965, Naililili Nursing Station has offered outpatient care, immunisations and emergency referrals.

The Minister recognised decades of service by frontline workers including pioneering nurse Emele Ose.

WHO Representative to the South Pacific Dr Mark Jacobs said community resilience was vital in facing climate challenges.

KOICA Fiji Director Hankyulsam Cho also pointed out that strong local participation drives sustainable health solutions.

The reopened facility will continue serving families, schoolchildren and vulnerable groups and it also reinforces the commitment to accessible and reliable healthcare across Fiji.
