The Ministry of Health has recorded an increase in acute viral illnesses or flu-like infections and is continuously monitoring the number of cases in each division.
Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu says the ministry will take all necessary precautions to manage the situation and is actively raising awareness among the public.
He adds that health facilities are prepared to handle the increase in cases, and the ministry is working closely with community health teams to ensure timely treatment and support for affected individuals.

Dr. Lalabalavu says the ministry is on alert, and if the situation reaches a level that requires declaring an outbreak, appropriate action will be taken.
“But for now, as it is, we are continuously monitoring the cases as per divisions and also ensuring that we have adequate treatment as well as a public health approach to it.”
Dr. Lalabalavu is urging people to stay alert, as this illness can affect individuals differently depending on their immune system.
Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa says preventive measures must be followed to reduce the risk of spreading infections.
“If people feel sick, please report early to the hospital so that they are given appropriate services.”
Ravunawa emphasizes the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, monitoring for symptoms, and acting promptly if feeling unwell.
