Lui Bale Vuibureta
A 31-year-old farmer and TikTok user Lui Bale Vuibureta is set to enter a plea on December 10.
He appeared this morning in the Suva Magistrates Court before Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola facing several charges.
These include causing harm by posting electronic communication under the Online Safety Act, criminal intimidation, and indecently insulting or annoying a person under the Crimes Act.
It is alleged that on August 14 in Nadi, Vuibureta went live on TikTok and made derogatory remarks against Information Minister Lynda Tabuya.
The posts were intended to cause her harm.
He also faces charges of threatening the Minister’s reputation with intent to cause alarm and using vulgar language to insult her modesty.
The State told the court that all disclosure documents have been provided to the defence. This includes a video-recorded transcript of Vuibureta’s caution interview.
The Magistrates Court will also hear submissions on whether the case should stay in the Magistrates Court or be transferred to the High Court.
