The Bose ni Vanua o Lau wants the role and responsibility of the Republic of Fiji’s Military Forces in the country reviewed.
Representative Solo Nata made this submission to the Great Council of Chiefs Review Committee on behalf of the people of Lau.
Nata says the RFMF should focus on the security of the nation and nothing more.
“If we study it properly, we can see that the majority of the coups done in Fiji are conducted by the military. But at times when there is a blame game, all the guns are from the camp.”
Nata says the people of Lau also called for proper training and scrutiny in selecting the RFMF commander.
Nata says the GCC should be part of the selection process.
Nata also emphasized the importance of training officers to understand the decisions they make and the consequences they can have for the community.
The next GCC review public consultation will be on Kadavu Island tomorrow.
