Education key to better choices for youth: Raibevu

November 19, 2025 4:17 pm

As Rewa prepares for its Rewa Day celebrations this weekend, provincial leaders say the focus is firmly on one thing, building a brighter, safer future for children and youth through education.

Roko Tui Rewa, Kitione Raibevu, says young people make better and more confident decisions when they are supported with strong educational opportunities.

He says education challenges remain one of the biggest issues for children in Rewa, and this year’s celebration will take a different approach.

For the first time, all proceeds from Rewa Day will go directly toward education initiatives in the province.

Raibevu says this step reflects the well-known saying, “it takes a village to raise a child.”

He says the community wants to make sure every child has the chance to learn, grow and stay away from situations that may lead them into trouble.

Rewa Provincial Council Education Committee member, Peni Togawale, says many children and young people struggle because they lack the support and awareness they need to make good decisions.

He says poor access to education can push them towards harmful paths, affecting their confidence, opportunities and long-term wellbeing.

Togawale says this is why the Council is stepping up, and why investment in education is now at the centre of the province’s plan.

He says children and youth are the future leaders of Fiji, and without proper guidance and learning support, their future, and the future of the province, is put at risk.

Togawale adds that the Rewa Day initiative is part of a wider commitment to help every child in Rewa access quality education so they can grow into strong, capable and positive leaders for their families, villages and country.
