While Swire Shipping Fijian Drua captain Temo Mayanavanua is still gutted by their opening-round loss to Moana Pasifika in the Super Rugby Pacific, he believes the defeat has highlighted key areas the side must address despite weeks of preparation.
Mayanavanua said the result and scoreline so early in the campaign carry both positives and negatives.
On one hand, the loss is disappointing.
On the other, it has given the squad an early wake-up call — exposing their shortcomings and providing an opportunity to correct mistakes before the competition intensifies.
“Its good that we learn these lessons very early in the tournament so we can grow and become better. Yes we’re upset with the loss, but it has its good and bad. Now we are sure of what we need to do better.”
With a tough challenge looming against the NSW Waratahs on Friday, Mayanavanua is eager to see how much progress the team has made over the past few days on the training field.
The Drua will face the Waratahs at 8.35pm in Sydney.
The match will be broadcast live on FBC Sports.
