BRU focuses on development

February 18, 2026 12:32 pm

After three strong years from both their men’s and women’s teams on the domestic stage, the Ba Rugby Union is now turning its attention to developing the next generation of talent.

The union will kick-start its season with the Junior Club Championship, featuring age grades from Under-14 through to Under-20.

BRU secretary Gabriele Kautoga confirmed that only players officially registered with the union will be eligible to compete, ensuring proper pathways and compliance within the competition.

With the championship set to conclude ahead of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union competitions, the tournament is expected to provide valuable preparation for students aiming to make their mark against traditional powerhouses such as Ratu Kadavulevu School, Marist Brothers High School and Nasinu Secondary School.

The boys’ division will begin on March 21, while the girls’ competition is scheduled to start on April 11.

Ba made headlines in 2023 when their men’s team earned promotion to the Skipper Cup for the first time in 23 years.

Their women’s side also delivered a dominant performance in last year’s Ranadi Cup final, securing a historic berth in this season’s Marama Cup.
