While many young people face rising drug-related challenges, 19-year-old Bhaveekesh Reddy is modeling a different path through Nithyananda Farms Fiji.
An Agriculture Science student at the Fiji National University, Reddy began planning his venture at the age of 16.
By reinvesting his study allowances back into the soil, he has turned a school-age ambition into a business that inspires youth toward financial independence and agricultural entrepreneurship.
Nithyananda Farms now sells vegetable and agroforestry seedlings, but Reddy plans to expand into hydroponics, aeroponics, cocopeat production, and farm-to-table farming using more sustainable methods.
“Wholesale vegetable seedlings and agroforestry seedlings are currently our focus; our production lines will increase over time. We are going to explore more innovations, more sustainable practices, and greater creativity as time goes on. As we learn, we implement those things on the farm and till the soil to build a better future.”
Assistant Minister for Commerce Sachinda Nand says local businesses and MSMEs create jobs and boost the economy.
“MSMEs play a very important role in our commercial and business environment. As you would have heard in my address, we expect that by 2030, they will contribute at least 40% of the country’s GDP. This shows how much effort the government is putting into developing MSMEs so that they can grow.”
Young entrepreneurs like Reddy believe that actions speak louder than words and hope his work will inspire more young people to take up agriculture and secure a brighter future.
