Lincoln Rewa FC may have secured victory in Round One of the Pillay Garments Champion vs. Champion series, but head coach Priyant Manu says there is still plenty of work to be done, particularly in front of the goal.
Despite defeating Labasa FC, Manu admitted his side missed key opportunities that could have made the result more comfortable.
With several new combinations in the squad, he believes improvement will come as the team continues to gel.
“If you take your chances, you will win. We did take our chances, but I think we missed a few crucial goals. That’s an area we have to work on.”
Manu highlighted the integration of new players, including recruits from their youth system and the Solomon Islands, as part of the team’s ongoing development.
“We brought in the new boys, some from our youth system and some from Solomon. They stood up when needed, and now it’s time for them to step up again. We have to gel the boys so we can play much better football.”
The Rewa coach also acknowledged the strong turnout from supporters, despite less-than-ideal weather conditions.
Looking ahead to Round Two in Labasa this Saturday, Manu says ball management and finishing will be key areas of focus during the week.
Rewa will now travel north, aiming to build on their opening win and seal the series when they meet Labasa again this weekend.
