FEO recorded $14m over-expenditure: OAG Report

In its 2024 Report, the Office of the Auditor General said the Fijian Elections Office recorded an over expenditure of $14 million in the 2022-2023 financial year.

The OAG said the FEO was allocated funding under two separate expenditure heads: Head 9 – a $16.9m Grant to FEO and Head 50- SEG 7- 2022 General Election Expenses $14.8m.

The OAG said out of the $16.9m under Head 9, FEO received a grant of $2.9m from the Ministry of Finance, which was also recorded as actual utilisation in the Financial Management Information System, leaving funding of $14m as unutilised.

The OAG said that, given it was an Election Year (December 2022), FEO utilised the $14.3 million in funding from the Head 50 allocation, leaving the unutilised funding under Head 9.

The OAG said additionally, they also had savings from previous financial years that were used to fund other expenses for the 2022-2023 financial year.
