Court remands two for attempted robbery

December 23, 2025 12:42 pm

Two men charged with attempted robbery appeared before the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.

Sekove Tawake and Sailosi Lakovi are facing charges of attempted robbery, resisting arrest, and refusing to provide fingerprints to police.

The prosecution told the court that while serving disclosures, both accused refused to participate in a caution interview. Police noted that this is the accused persons’ right, but it meant the disclosures were only partially served.

Lakovi raised concerns in court, claiming there were legal flaws in the charging process, saying he was brought in on December 22 while charges were filed a day earlier on December 21.

The State responded that this issue should be discussed with his defence lawyer.

During the hearing, both accused confirmed they understood the charges against them and informed the court they would be engaging private legal counsel.

The defence requested that the men be held at the Valelevu Police Station, citing injuries and the need for medical attention. However, the court rejected the request, saying remand centres have qualified medical personnel to provide treatment.

The accused did not object to the prosecution’s applications, which were noted by the court.

The court also noted that the two have other matters before the Nasinu Magistrates Court, which will be called in January.

Both men were further remanded in custody, with arrangements for medical assessments and welfare checks if required.

They are due to reappear in court on January 6, 2026.
