Written consent now required for birth certificate

April 8, 2019 7:14 am

The Ministry of Justice has directed that all requests to re-print another person’s birth certificate will require written consent.

This is effective from today.

In a public notice over the weekend, the Ministry clarified that all requests for family members, including immediate family members for all births and marriage certificates will require a letter of authority from the person whose certificate is required to be printed.

For death certificates, a letter of authority is required from the next of kin or executor or trustee under the probate jurisdiction or administrator under the letter of administration.

In addition, a valid ID of the person requesting for re-prints of births, deaths and marriage certificates must now be presented to the BDM officer.

Also, a person requesting to re-print his or her own birth or marriage certificate will need to provide a valid ID for verification purposes.
