A cutting-edge disaster recovery system has been successfully implemented at the Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS), in partnership with Datec (Fiji) Pte Ltd.
This initiative is a significant step in enhancing the nation’s capacity to provide continuous, life-saving meteorological information in times of need.
The new system guarantees that important meteorological services continue to function properly even during natural disasters, which is important as Fiji continues to deal with the increasing effects of climate change and extreme weather.
Built with geographic redundancy and robust failover capabilities, the new infrastructure protects essential data and minimises downtime.
FMS Director Mr. Misaeli Funaki said the project isn’t just about infrastructure, it’s about saving lives and that their partnership with Datec provides the tools necessary to operate continuously during emergencies, keeping communities informed and safe.
The disaster recovery environment enables faster forecasting, improved data analysis, and uninterrupted public advisories, all crucial for effective emergency response.
It also aligns Fiji’s meteorological capabilities with global standards in digital resilience.
Datec Fiji CEO Mr. Vinit Nand said this achievement is more than just a technical milestone; it’s a proud moment for everyone involved. Their close collaboration with FMS has produced a solution that enhances national preparedness and showcases the strength of local teamwork.
Now that this technology is in place, FMS is not only more robust, but it is also establishing a new standard for digital infrastructure in the Pacific that is climate-ready, opening the door to safer and more intelligent public service delivery throughout the region.
