Fiji powerlifting teams three gold medal haul has the sport calling on the government to commit more to minor sports.

59 year old Seinimili Turner, 16 year old Isiah Elder and 15 year old Ana Garnett returned last night with gold medals.

Turner says this was due to the foresight of the team.

She says even at training the athletes were lifting more than the gold medal mark set at the previous games.

Powerlifting manager Rajneel Prasad says the team was ignored by sponsors and they had to reduce the team size because of financial woes.

Prasad says the focus should be on sports who achieve rather than sports which are popular.
