Energy Fiji Limited has moved to set the record straight, dismissing claims circulating on social media that it rushed to court against the Construction, Energy & Timber Workers Union of Fiji following a strike notice.
EFL General Manager Human Resources Randhir Charan says the claims are misleading and factually incorrect.
Charan confirms the matter referred to is a defamation case, not an industrial dispute.
The case was filed at the Lautoka High Court on 24 December 2025, well before the Union issued its Notice of Strike.
He says the legal action relates solely to defamatory statements allegedly made by CETWUF General Secretary John Paul, which EFL says damaged the reputation of its Chief Executive Officer and the GM Human Resources.
“These proceedings have nothing to do with employment conditions or workplace issues,”
He adds that EFL had repeatedly asked for an apology and withdrawal of the statements, which were circulated via a CETWUF Viber group and an email dated 14 May 2025, but this did not happen.
Charan also confirms that issues raised in the Notice of Strike are already before the Arbitration Court under Trade Dispute No. 4 of 2025, and EFL will await the court’s determination.
EFL says it respects the judicial process and is calling on all employees, including union members, to remain professional as the legal matters run their course.
