Ill-discipline proved costly for Racing 92

September 2, 2018 5:31 pm

Racing 92 were thrashed 40-17 at home by Clermont Auvergne in a scrappy Top 14 contest as their ill-discipline proved costly in round 2 of the French Top 14 rugby competition this morning.

Greig Laidlaw was the star of the show for Clermont, scoring 17 points via five penalties and a conversion.
The hosts raced out to a 19-3 lead at the break, courtesy of a converted try by centre Wesley Fofana, three Laidlaw penalties and a drop goal by Camille Lopez.

Fijian-born Virimi Vakatawa was able to score a try for the Racing in the second half however the home side failed to build on that collecting two yellow cards.
Two further tries and three penalties, including one from veteran Morgan Parra, propelled Clermont to a 40-10 advantage.

Racing scored a consolation try when new signing Simon Zebo dotted down in the 80th minute.
