Defensive discipline has taken centre stage for the Fiji Airways Fiji men 7s side as preparations intensify ahead of the Hong Kong 7s in two weeks’ time.
Head coach Osea Kolinisau says the team is leaving nothing to chance, with training sessions focused on improving structure and consistency under pressure.
Kolinisau says defence was the main focus during their latest session.
“We’re not taking anything lightly. Today was mainly on our defence, making sure our processes are right.”
He adds that key areas such as tackling, tracking, and decision-making are being closely monitored.
“Getting our tackle right, making sure we’re tracking well, not over-chasing, and getting our one-on-ones right.”
Kolinisau also revealed that players are being pushed beyond their limits to test their ability under fatigue.
“They were tired; we put them through. We made them run a couple more paces just to see how they defend when they’re tired.”
The Hong Kong 7s will be held from the 17th to the 19th of this month.
