The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service will be given greater powers to recover unpaid taxes under proposed amendments before Parliament.

The Tax Administration Amendment Bill allows the FRCS Chief Executive Officer, with written consent from a taxpayer, to sell property subject to a tax charge without first obtaining a High Court order.

Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel says the change will speed up tax recovery and reduce legal costs.
