A massive oil spill along the Nasese foreshore is causing concerns among residents who live in the area.
Resident Shalendra Kumar says he fears that the long-term impact on the environment will have negative consequences for the foreshore.
“Got off my car and then I was looking at the beach and I see the marks, the oil marks on the sand. And actually the sea was looking like it was covered of a layer or something, right? So it’s not something that we can just see and go by, but it’s something a bigger issue here and it’s about the environment and everybody should be very much active into it. This is our foreshore, and you have to keep it clean.”
Kumar says the Suva foreshore has long been cherished for its natural beauty, serving as a recreational hotspot and a source of livelihood for many.
Meanwhile, questions have been sent to the Ministry of Environment on this matter.
