Free WiFi hotspot launched in Lautoka

September 29, 2018 6:49 pm

Residents in Lautoka can now access free WiFi at Shirley Park through the Walesi hotspot that was launched by Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum this afternoon.

This means people with smartphones can now sit and enjoy each otherโ€™s company at the well-known park and get connected and enjoy free and unlimited access to the internet.

He says the government is trying to create public spaces around the country for all Fijians to access high speed internet.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the government is trying to do this irrespective of how rich or poor people are no matter where they come from.

“The government is working very diligently to ensure that many of the government services will also be made available through the internet. We were last week in Nadi, Savusavu, Suva, next week in Ba and weโ€™re going to all various urban centers throughout Fiji to ensure that everybody gets connected to the internet.”

The WiFi hotspot area would allow people 60 minutes free high speed internet each day.

Around $40m has been allocated to the ICT sector for increased speed in public WiFi hotspots in the country.
