January 24, 2026 4:55 pm

Around 30 members of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Lautoka branch, carried out a city clean-up campaign in Lautoka today morning despite heavy rain.

Volunteers, including children, collected plastics, cans, bottles and paper waste from roadsides and drains, filling 12 large sacks of rubbish.

The campaign was supported by the Lautoka City Council, which accompanied the group and facilitated rubbish disposal.

Volunteer Faga Jo says the activity was a way of giving back to the nation, supporting government efforts, and serving the community, adding that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility.

Another volunteer, Peni Nabainivalu, says the rain did not deter the group, adding that maintaining cleanliness is part of living out their values through action and service.

The church says the initiative forms part of its regular community outreach activities, aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and civic awareness in Lautoka.

Similar clean-up activities are expected to continue as part of its ongoing volunteer programmes.
