A 21-year-old man has been convicted of manslaughter for the death of his father in 2016.

Avinaash Kamal in a fit of anger threw a lit kerosene stove onto his father – 40-year-old Amresh Kamal.

The court heard that Avinaash was angry with his father over an argument.

He told police in his caution interview that he threw the stove at his father’s feet and his clothes caught on fire.

The deceased suffered third-degree burns on his entire body and was hospitalized for about six weeks, but developed pneumonia and bacterial infections before he succumbed to his wounds.

The post mortem revealed the cause of death was clots in vessels that pumped blood from his heart to his lungs, triggered by the burns.

Lautoka High Court judge Justice Daniel Goundar will deliver sentencing at a later date.
