May 27, 2014 12:57 am

Three team spots remain for next year’s Rugby World Cup in England, one of which will be taken up by either Fiji or the Cook Islands.

A total of 20 teams will participate in the championship and the most recent country to qualify for the RWC is Japan.

The Cherry Blossoms defeated Hong Kong 49-8 last weekend to become the Asian 5 Nations Champions and they will join Pool B with South Africa, Samoa, Scotland and USA at the World Cup.

On June 28 at Suva’s ANZ Stadium, the Flying Fijians take on the Cook Islands and the winner from this match will be placed in Pool A alongside Australia, England and Wales.

Either Hong Kong or Uruguay will complete Pool A following their repechage clash.

The third and final RWC spot awaits the winner from the Russia versus runner-up from the Africa Cup division.

The winner from this match will join Pool C’s grouping of New Zealand, Argentina, Tonga and Georgia.
