The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has partnered with the Lautoka City Council’s Health Department to inspect supermarkets and retail outlets.

FCCC states that the primary objective of this joint operation is to ensure that businesses are not engaging in the sale of expired or damaged products, thereby safeguarding unsuspecting consumers.

The Commission says ensuring the integrity of the market and well-being of consumers is a priority.

FCCC is also calling upon the public to actively participate in this endeavor by reporting any instances of unethical business practices.

Consumers are urged to exercise responsibility and vigilance in their purchases, particularly by closely examining expiration dates, especially when prices appear unusually low.

The consumption of expired items can pose significant health risks, necessitating a strict avoidance of such products.

In the event that consumers come across retailers selling expired goods, there are official communication channels available for reporting these incidents.
