FHEC helps Higher Institutions with RPL policy

The Fiji Higher Education Commission is currently visiting Higher Institutions to help on how to develop their Recognition of Prior Learning policy.

FHEC Communications Officer, Epineri Rawalai says the new policy which will enable unqualified skilled workers to have academic papers which will help institutions in assessing their students in the workplace.

Rawalai says three institutions that have indicated their intentions to roll out RPL in 2020 includes the Technical College of Fiji, the Latter Day Saints Church College, and the Fiji National University.

“So while we are urging institutions to develop their RPL policy, we are helping out. The Fiji Higher Education Commission is helping out, our team, they go out to institutions and conduct workshops so that they are confident enough to develop their RPL policy.”

Rawalai says Higher Institutions will have to develop their RPL policy and align it with the Commission in order to carry out the process.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process to recognize competence and certify skilled people who have acquired working experience but have no formal qualifications.

Monfort Boys Town is the first in Fiji to develop its RPL policy and is ready to implement it in Term 1, 2020.
