The Fijian Media Association will hold a Pre-COP Climate Change Town Hall in Nukubalavu village, Savusavu, this coming Wednesday evening.
FMA General Secretary Stanley Simpson says Northern residents will have an opportunity to raise environment and climate change issues and challenge government on actions being taken to address these.
Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Permanent Secretary Dr Sivendra Michael will be present at the event to answer questions posed by the populace.
Simpson says six pre-summit workshops designed to improve journalists’ skills and knowledge will run over two days from September 21-22.
He says the sessions include innovative storytelling with BBC Media Action, loss and damage in climate change with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), digital innovation with the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS), a media roundtable on climate corruption and transnational organised crime with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), an ocean-focused session with the Waitt Institute, and a workshop with Women in Media Fiji and the Fiji Council of Social Services (FCOSS).
The Savusavu Town Hall will be held during the 8th Pacific Media Summit which closes on September 25.
This will culminate with the Pacific Islands News Association AGM and a Savusavu Outcome statement which will be presented by FMA President Rosi Tamani-Doviverata and PINA President Kalafi Moala.
