“We are recommending to farmers to plant certified seed cane so that they can have an improvement in their germination that will contribute to improvement in the production.”

He adds the certification program had been launched in the country but stopped due to the shortage of field staff, causing farmers to use a variety of unapproved seeds.

Since the re-implementation of the program, the Sugar Research Institute has revealed a 70% improvement in the use of certified seeds.
