The boys will step up for Kitione Salawa in his 50th appearance for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua when they face the Western Force tonight, says head coach Glen Jackson, who believes the milestone will inspire a strong team performance.

It’s a special moment for the flanker, who has been reflecting on his journey from the early days of the franchise based in Lennox Head during the COVID-19 period, to becoming a key figure in the Drua forward pack.

“My favourite memory at the Drua was when we were in Lennox Head during COVID-19. It was just us boys, a lot of enjoyable moments. And when I played my first cap for the Drua — my family, my children, my brother and other relatives, these people keep me motivated when I step onto the rugby field.”

The Namotomoto, Nadi man says reaching 50 games is a proud achievement shared with his family, faith, and those who have supported him throughout his journey.

“I just want to thank the Lord for His protection upon my life and the talent He has given me to play. Not forgetting my parents and guardians for looking after me when I was small, my siblings and especially my family.”

Jackson paid tribute to Salawa’s consistency and work rate, describing him as one of the most dependable players in the squad since day one and a key part of the Drua’s forward pack over the years.

He said the flanker’s efforts and development over that time have seen him grow into one of the most reliable loose forwards in Fiji rugby.

The Drua and Force will meet at 9.35 tonight and you can watch the LIVE action on FBC Sports.
