Kadavu boxer Watisoni Rokotuitoga is relishing the opportunity to test himself against a formidable opponent when he steps into the ring against Nauru’s Rockanson Iga at the upcoming Zeg Boxing Promotions event.
Rokotuitoga will compete in the Super Welterweight division, with the two fighters set for a six-round contest as they look to make their mark in the ring.
The Kadavu lad is under no illusion about the challenge ahead, having already watched footage of Iga and identified him as a strong opponent.
However, rather than being intimidated by what he has seen, Rokotuitoga believes the challenge is exactly what he needs.
He is deliberately seeking tougher opposition, saying he has no interest in taking an easy fight as he looks to measure his ability against quality competition.
“I don’t want an easy fight. I want to fight a stronger guy like him.”
While the contest will not be for a championship belt, the six-round bout presents an important opportunity for both boxers to showcase their skills and build their standing in the Super Welterweight division.
Rokotuitoga revealed that he had hoped the fight would be for the vacant Super Welterweight title, but the contest was instead approved as a six-round non-title bout.
An amateur boxer by background, Rokotuitoga says he has remained active in the amateur ranks, regularly stepping into the ring as he continues to develop his experience.
His upcoming clash against Iga will now provide another opportunity to test his progress against international opposition, with the Kadavu fighter determined to make the most of the challenge at Zeg Boxing Promotions.
The Zeg Boxing promotions is t for Saturday in Suva.
