Fiji is pushing to lift workforce skills through flexible online learning, with the launch of 500 self-paced micro courses by the Oceania Institute of Technology.
While officiating at the launch today, Public Service Commission Chair Luke Rokovada says the initiative responds to growing demand for practical, accessible training as technology reshapes workplaces.
Rokavada says the platform allows workers to build skills without leaving their jobs, adding that short, targeted learning fits better into daily routines than traditional workshops.
Public Service Commission Chair Luke Rokovada says technology is advancing quickly and we must keep pace with it.
“We all know that in today’s world, if you stop learning, you stop growing. Technology is moving so fast that what seemed like science fiction yesterday is our reality today. For a developing country like ours, we don’t always need to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes the smartest move is simply to find the best global models and make them work for our people”
OIT founder Hasmukh Lal says the new learning platform offers a way for workers to improve skills at their own pace.
“We do not believe in supply but saving the demand with pre-service and in-service training programs, certifications, short courses and micro qualifications”
Training institutes like this play a vital role in nation building.
“We partner with institutes like OIT to help our industry upskill and always grow the talent. As you know in fiji, we are losing talent left right and centre”
The platform is now open to individuals and organisations, with the institute urging businesses to invest in staff development through flexible and affordable training.
