Argentina star Lionel Messi has spent more than two decades playing against some of the world’s biggest football nations, but one major opponent has always been missing from his international career — England.
That will change on Wednesday when Argentina face England in the World Cup semi-final in Atlanta, a blockbuster clash the Argentine Football Association described as “the match fate owed Messi.”
Despite facing the likes of Brazil, Uruguay, Germany, Italy, Spain and France, the 39-year-old has never played against England.
The closest he came was in November 2005, when he was in Argentina’s squad for a friendly in Geneva — the last meeting between the two nations.
They play England at 7am on Wednesday and you can watch it Live on FBC Sports.
