Former New Zealand All Whites striker, Wynton Rufer, says the Vodafone Fiji Under-19 side, will start as top bets at the OFC World Cup play-offs in Suva from Friday.

Rufer is coaching the Papua New Guinea side, which will be competing against Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and American Samoa.

The winner of the play-offs gets a ticket to the 2015 Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

“I got to see them in Auckland against New Zealand and they lost 4-1, but I can see they have a team of great potential, big strong players and very quick. And of course playing at home is always a big advantage.”

The championships start at 2.30pm on Friday with Fiji taking on American Samoa.

Vanuatu meets New Caledonia at 5pm, before the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea clash at 7.30pm.
